To celebrate the 45th anniversary of Hong Kong Translation Society (“HKTS”), HKTS and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (“LCSD”) of Hong Kong Public Libraries had jointly organized a series of translation talk with the topic on ‘Translation and Our Daily Life’.  On 21 January 2017, Dr. Jimmy Ma, S.B.S., J.P. delivered his speech on ‘Legal Translation: My Experience from Working in the Legislature’ at Hong Kong City Hall Library which turned out to be a full-house event.

Dr. Ma was the legal counsel in the Legislature for over 20 years.  After retirement, he works as a barrister now.  He started his speech on introducing the duties of legal counsel in the Legislature and then moved the focus to the history and development of setting up of Bilingual Laws Information System (“BLIS”) under Department of Justice.  Finally, he shared his personal views on the BLIS based on his observation through years.

The talk was moderated by Mr. Foster Yim, Barrister-at-law, Vice President of Hong Kong Translation Society which attracted many questions from the floor to create an interesting and interactive atmosphere at the end of the talk.
